Utilising the latest mobile technology it has a number of advantages over the paper format. It has been designed with music festivals in mind however it could be useful for any event that uses a timetable (eg list of speakers at a conference). 1.1 Features --------------------------------- SEE WHAT BAND IS PLAYING NOW The application uses the internal phone clock to highlight the bands currently playing. You can quickly change between stages to check out all the current bands performing. SELECT YOUR FAVOURITES You can highlight the bands you wish to see throughout the day much the same as using a highlighter on a traditional timetable. These bands are also added to "MY TIMETABLE" so you can quickly see a running order of your day. The application saves any selections you make so you can plan your day in advance. SET REMINDERS The phone will vibrate 5 minutes before any band added to "MY TIMETABLE" is about to hit the stage. This reminder means you'll never miss a band again! ONLINE FUNCTIONALITY: Go online and select the timetable you need. If the festival doesn't yet have a timetable - you can easily create your own timetable by modifying the xml file. CONVENIENCE Backlit mobile screen enables you to read the timetable when the sun goes down. CREATE YOUR OWN TIMETABLES The timetables used by the IFT are xml based meaning you can easily create your own timetables. 2.0 Installing --------------------------------- STEP 1: IMPORTANT: Flash lite 2.1 must be installed on your mobile device. Check for supported devices: http://www.adobe.com/mobile/supported_devices/ Most current mobiles have only 1.1 installed however you can still use the app - by downloading the latest version of flash from adobe.com http://www.adobe.com/devnet/devices/index.html?tab:downloads=1 The application has been designed and tested on a Nokia N80. STEP 2: Download the .zip file to your computer. Open the zip file and transfer timetable.swf and timetable.xml to your phone. They may have to sit in the "others" folder for flash to see them. 2.1 Running the Application --------------------------------- If flash 2.1 came pre-installed on your mobile device you can run the application simply by opening timetable.swf otherwise you'll have to first open the flash player and then select timetable.swf. 3.0 Instructions for Use --------------------------------- Upon opening the application you are presented with two options: OPEN LOCAL and GO ONLINE. OPEN LOCAL: Load the existing timetable on your phone (loads the file timetable.xml that resides in the same directory as timetable.swf). This option is ideal if you don't have internet access on your phone or you want to load a custom timetable (see section "Creating your own timetable") GO ONLINE: You can choose from a selection of timetables available online. (NOTE: you may be charged internet access fees by your mobile provider if you choose this option) Highlight the option you would like to select using the [UP] and [DOWN] arrow key and press [SELECT] Once the timetable has been loaded, use the [LEFT] and [RIGHT] arrow keys to navigate between stages. On a stage screen use the [UP] and [DOWN] arrow keys to highlight a band. Press the [SELECT] key to add the highlighted band to "MY TIMETABLE". You can view "MY TIMETABLE" by pressing the [2] key. The selections in "MY TIMETABLE" are saved even after you close the application. (NOTE: Due to memory restrictions once you open a new timetable any previous "MY TIMETABLE" saves are cleared - the number of bands that can be saved is also dependent on your phone on a Nokia N80 approximately 50 bands can be saved) You can return to the main stage select screen at any time by pressing the [1] key. Bands currently playing are highlighted in red. This application uses your phone's clock, so ensure it's set correctly. 4.0 Creating Your Own Timetable --------------------------------- A simple xml file is used to populate the IFT. You can easily open any existing timetable.xml file in a text editor as a starting point to create your own timetable. To use your timetable with the IFT simply replace the "timetable.xml" file with your own "timetable.xml" file and choose the "OPEN LOCAL" option. If you would like your xml file to be added to the online section please send it to me: matthew.booy@gmail.com 4.1 Timetable Format --------------------------------- Following is a example with just one stage and one band. Please note: date: must be in the format DD.MM.YY bg: The hex value of the colour displayed in the IFT of that particular stage. Bold colours tend to work best. st: Start time in 24 Hour time in the format HH.MM ft: Finish time in 24 Hour time in the format HH.MM Due to size limitations the following limitations apply: Maximum 8 stages Maximum 14 bands per stage 6.0 Future --------------------------------- Lots of improvements in store (maybe!) 6.0 Credits/Contact Details --------------------------------- created by matt booy http://www.mattbooy.com Any questions/problems please contact me at: matthew.booy@gmail.com
